Aboriginal young people often face exclusion from society and barriers to acceptance. The Daramu program helps these young people overcome obstacles and gain the confidence they need to live a fulfilling life.
The Daramu program is a specialist Aboriginal youth justice program that aims to deter those aged 12–18 from ongoing contact with the juvenile criminal justice system. Each individual is given an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander caseworker who connects with them, models positive behaviour and supports their journey to living safely within the community, free from criminal activity.
The Daramu team delivers workshops that aim to build self-esteem in these young people and help them find their own unique sense of meaning and purpose. Young people from the Blacktown Local Government area can be referred to receive 12 to 24 weeks of intensive case management support.
