Providing young people with practical skills and knowledge allows them to follow their dreams with confidence.
I wanted to go into a practical sort of area and learn what I needed to run my business step-by-step. I walked away from the workshops knowing how to be ‘straight up’ – that is, business is business. Esekia Aiiloilo, 19, We Can Be Heroes participant
The people at the workshop explained how I’d go about setting up my business and how I could have a competitive advantage from other people doing the same thing. It was good getting advice from people who have been setting up businesses for 20 years.Bryce McEwen, 21, We Can Be Heroes participant
With support from the Queensland Government’s Advance Queensland initiativeOur series of start your own business workshops, called We Can Be Heroes, help to build creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial skills in young Queenslanders who may have missed out on traditional education pathways. These individuals come from a wide variety of backgrounds and include young people with disabilities, those excluded from mainstream schools, refugees and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. With our support, these young people can have better access to a wide range of opportunities – they can be their own hero.
