Young Aboriginal people can often face exclusion from education. Mudjin Byala draws on traditional education principles to support their growth at school.

Mudjin Byala is a specialist Aboriginal program that supports children and young people within the Blacktown local government area who are transitioning from primary school to high school, or who are at risk of expulsion or disengaging from education. The program is based on traditional and cultural forms of oral storytelling.

We collaborate with families and schools to resolve issues in a less formal setting. Each individual, together with their family, will work intensively with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander caseworker for up to 12 weeks to help them accomplish their educational goals. Participants also have access to a range of workshops at the Daramu cultural site on topics such as good tucker and exercise, confidence and resilience, personal hygiene, bullying and healthy relationships. These workshops can also be held at various schools.
